Our first Year 10 Chemical Reactions
1. Magnesium reacting with oxygen:

Method: We held a strip of magnesium metal in the hottest part of a bunsen burner flame till it caught fire. We didn't look directly at the reaction because (safety reason)
Observations:
1. The magnesium metal was a shiny, grey and malleable.
2. The magnesium burned with a bright white light.
3. After it burned it turned into a greyish white ash.

The word equation is: Magnesium + Oxygen -----> Magnesium Oxide

The balanced chemical equation is: Mg + O2 ----->2 MgO



2. Iron filings reacting with sulphur:

Method: We mixed equal amounts of iron filings and sulphur then used a magnet wrapped in paper to separate them. We mixed them again and added the mixture to a test tube and heated strongly.
Observations:
1. The iron filings were dark gray almost balck.
2. The sulphur was light yellow.
3, When we heated the tube it burned with a bright red at the bottom.

Käthe Kollwitz

  • She was born on July 8, 1867, Königsberg, East Prussia
  •  In 1891 she married Karl Kollwitz, a doctor who opened a clinic in a working-class section of Berlin
  • She travelled to Paris in 1904, frequented museums and galleries, studied sculpture at the Académie Julian, twice visited Rodin, and met the social satirist Théophile Steinlen.
  • She died onApril 22, 1945, near Dresden, Germany

  • Kollwitz effectively accepted Klinger's challenge to develop an epic suite of images linked by ideas, which confronted difficult themes of poverty, infant mortality, violent rebellion, and retaliatory slaughter

Math Reflection



  1. What were the main mathematical concepts or ideas that you learned or that we discussed in class?   We´ve learned about the history of geometry and what the basic angles are.
  2. What questions do you still have about - I still have question about how the interior angles of different polygons works.
  3. What new vocabulary words or terms were introduce? tessellation
  4. How is MC Escher similar to Egyptians? They both used geometric features in creating artworks.
  5. What were some of your strengths and weaknesses in this unit? What is your plan to improve in your areas of weakness? My strength in this unit was the google slides presentation.
