Risk or Challenge recount

My Experience at the Adrenalin Forest

It was a rainy, freezing cold morning, I can feel the rain droplets on my skin. I was with my friends and some of my classmates, with some of the school staffs to accompany us. We were at the Adrenalin forest wearing harnesses and helmets. There are lots of trees, of course obviously, it’s a forest. Lots of obstacles and courses that are connected from the trees. Different people and families just went to have a day out. I can smell the strong smell of dirt and grass.

In this certain place, we are all to finish some, if not all of the courses that was all very high up. The problem was, I have the worst fear of heights ever since I was young, why would that be okay? And I’m also really short that's why I already knew that  I can’t do the courses with smooth sailing to the finish line.It was also really hard for me to grab the safety thingy to connect and disconnect from the wires.  At first I was really excited when we got the note saying, we were going to this place, because I found out that I was going with my friends. I got as nervous as a long-tailed cat when we got to our destination because I didn't actually know what Adrenalin forest was until we got there and that there were going to be lots of obstacles. I was shaking the whole time, I was like a scared chicken during my whole journey there. There was this one time when I tried to think in my head, hesitating if I should continue finishing the courses or just ask one of the forest’s staff to rescue me. As in rescue, because it felt like I was gonna collapse because of dizziness.

I went to the very first set of wire courses which were suppose to be the “easiest” one, which it was, but it wasn’t easy at all for me. I crossed through the different courses of criss crossy ropes, logs, and wires. One of my classmates that goes just before me was yelling at me, guiding me through and telling me what the easier ways to do this and that. I decided to do the fifth course as my last one.I finished it and I wasn't the last person in our school that finished our own goal.  Even though I have this fear I still decided to finish the courses as it is just once in a school year opportunity that the school offers,I think. It was awesome. When all finished the courses that we had to do, we all sat on a bench, took pictures and ate pizza. That was the best part. On the afternoon we all went back to school with the class and went home on our own.

Every person has a fear of something, but I really had a good time because even if its just for fun-kind of activity I didn't let my fear became my limit.

Hansel and Gretel

Maxzi Francisco

                      Hansel and Gretel

Near the forest, there lived a poor woodcutter. He has two children Hansel and Gretel, their mother died when they were still just infants. A few years later their father decided to get married again because he couldn't handle going to work and looking after the children at the same time. Their fatherś second wife was very cruel, she came from a rich family and hated their living condition with her husband and she also hated the two children very much. When the winter came; because of the lack of food Hansel and Gretelś stepmother decided to leave them deep in the forest so that they’ll not be able to find their way home as there was not enough food for them all.Their father disagree but still they still went with the stepmotherś plan. While the couple were discussing it at night they didn't realise that the kids overheard them talking about the plan from their room. After the parents have gone to bed, Hansel sneaked out of the house and gathered many white pebbles as he can and put them in his pocket.

The next day, their parents told Hansel and Gretel that theyŕe all going for a walk into the forest, while walking all of them are walking Hansel lays a trail of pebbles for them to follow back home. Their parents left them with a lame excuse and told them that they will come back. The children just sat tight even though they were so scared because of the dark and the animal sounds they heard, but they waited for the moon to rise and afterwards walk after the stones back home. They returned home safely, and their father was very happy to see them. The stepmother acted out that she was also happy to see them, but days later she decided to leave the kids again in a deeper area in the forest. Hansel and Gretel tries doing their previous plan of collecting white pebbles but this time their door was locked. Hansel saved up the bread he had for dinner.

The next morning, the couple led Hansel and Gretel into the woods. Hansel leave trails of breadcrumbs behind him for them to follow back home. Their parents left them again with a lame excuse. It was noon and they decided to come home before it gets dark, but they found out that the hungry birds in the forest ate the bread crumbs that Hansel left. After walking around for a couple of days, they saw a white bird, the bird chirps beautifully. Hansel and Gretel followed the white bird and led them into a clearing in the woods, and there was a house made out of cakes, gingerbreads, candies and covered with colorful sprinkles and cream. Eager and tired, the kids start to eat the housetop of the house, suddenly they saw an old woman came out from the house. They told the old lady everything that had happen to them. The old lady offered the children to come inside, with the promise of soft beds and hot showers. The inside was very different from the outside, it was very dark and gloomy. They ate dinner there and then the slept.

The following day, Hansel and Gretel woke up but couldn't find the old lady. They looked around the house. They then saw a small door and opened it, they found a room room full of treasures; golds and diamonds. They didn't know that the old lady was a witch that eats children. When they turned around they saw the scary looking witch and pulled Hansel inside the cage in the garden. She made Gretel her slave. The witch asks Gretel to cook food for Hansel and feed him for him to get fat, the way she likes to eat children.  Everytime Hansel gets the food, he shoves it in the hole he dug up. This happened for a few more days. The witch noticed that Hansel wasn't gaining weight, she got impatient and decided to eat Hansel anyways. The witch ordered Gretel to lean into the oven to check if it's already hot. Gretel was smart enough to sense the witch´s intention and pretends that she doesn't understand what the witch means. The witch was pissed and pushed Gretel off to the side to demonstrate it. Gretel gained all of her strength and pushed the witch into the oven as the witch was leaning over there. Gretel locked the oven door and unlocked Hansel out of the cage. They brought some of the treasure that the witch was hiding. They went outside and the house burnt down from the fire in the oven. After quite a while of walking around the came across a river and there was a giant swan that helped them cross the river. After crossing the river they noticed that they were already near their house. Hansel and Gretel ran fast to get home, they saw their father and all of them were happy. Their stepmother left their father and came back to her family. With all of them together and the treasure, they lived happily ever after.

" My Selfie Woodcut Plan"

My word/emotion is happiness because I like being happy. Happiness makes people become more compassionate, creative and energetic that reflects to our art works.

My most inspiring printmaker is Kathe Kollwitz beacuse she makes really deep and sad prints which are opposites to my preferences but she's really good at it and I want to be able to do prints like hers.

In my final work I want to make it recognizable without adding much details to it.

My next step is drawing my portrait

Our first Year 10 Chemical Reactions
1. Magnesium reacting with oxygen:

Method: We held a strip of magnesium metal in the hottest part of a bunsen burner flame till it caught fire. We didn't look directly at the reaction because (safety reason)
Observations:
1. The magnesium metal was a shiny, grey and malleable.
2. The magnesium burned with a bright white light.
3. After it burned it turned into a greyish white ash.

After it burned

The word equation is: Magnesium + Oxygen -----> Magnesium Oxide

The balanced chemical equation is: Mg + O2 ----->2 MgO

2. Iron filings reacting with sulphur:

Method: We mixed equal amounts of iron filings and sulphur then used a magnet wrapped in paper to separate them. We mixed them again and added the mixture to a test tube and heated strongly.
Observations:
1. The iron filings were dark gray almost balck.
2. The sulphur was light yellow.
3, When we heated the tube it burned with a bright red at the bottom.
